For a second summer in a row, the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Rugby Club will offer
a junior Rugby program for boys and girls aged 14 to 17 years. Those
interested in playing and learning about Rugby this summer are welcome to
join. There is no official league in place, but many Clubs are following our
example by forming their own junior teams and we have scheduled exhibition
matches and tournaments throughout the summer.
As one of the most popular sports in high school, Rugby is growing faster
and faster across the province. The Ste-Anne’s Rugby Club has a winning
tradition and a solid program that develops young athletes into talented
Rugby players. In 2009, the Club continues its commitment to the
development of Rugby. But, more importantly the Club wants to provide a
program that fills the needs of young athletes. It’s our intention to give
local youth a place to play during the summer months.
Last year, we had students from seven different high schools playing with
us, and we look forward to working with them again.
Among the many qualified coaches who oversee the program is Lee Bieber,
former coach of the Quebec U19 Women, John Abbott Lady Islanders, McGill
Martlets and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Senior women’s teams. There is a wonderful
and very experienced group of coaches who are sure to inspire young players:
Meet the Coaches on-line and read up on John
Lavery (Coach of McGill Martlets), Margaret Thompson (Coach, Quebec Senior
Women), Bryce Thomassin (Quebec Caribou), Eliaze Mainberger (Caoch John
Abbott Islanders).
In addition, many of the Club's senior, provincial and
national team players will be guest coaching throughout the season.
A special “Bring-A-Buddy” clinic
will take place on Sunday, June 7th from 12:30
to 3pm at our home field (following the WIM practice). Hosted by our
coaches, all juniors interested in playing with Ste-Anne’s this summer are
invited to participate. Come meet the players, coaches and parents of our
Club. It's free! Players are asked to bring a water bottle and their Rugby
gear.
The Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Rugby Club & SAINTS Juniors promotes WIM
- West Island Montreal Youth Rugby (10 to 14 years). They practice
Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon also at École St-George. You can
find their link on our web page too!
