SAINTS ARE OFF TO A HEAVENLY START IN 2009      16th June 2009

Ste-Anne's junior program is catching on

Twenty nine years ago Bill Tierney, Andre Lafon and Stone ran the first ever Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Rugby Club junior coaching session. There were nine kids. Over the years the program has had as many as 23 members in 2003, when Ryan Lynam led a tour to Wales and England. The program has also gone as low as zero members in some years, especially when the  junior players were forced to play third division Rugby. The 2009 season though, is a different affair.

Under the leadership of Lee Bieber,  and with a cast of enthusiastic coaches, our junior program is drawing well over 40 players at practice. At times, the junior program has more players at practice than the senior squad.

If you are interested in playing Rugby, it is not too late. Practice sessions are Monday evenings at 6:30pm, and all are welcome. Even Bill Tierney showed up at the last Monday training to check out what all the fuss was about, and commented, "we have arrived!"

With the high school season just ending and the complications of exams and proms out of the way, Bieber is hoping that both the girls and boys may be able to run two teams each. The boys have already seen action at the Quebec Sevens Tournament in Ste-Julie and all the teams will be playing at the West island Mini Rugby Jamboree this Sunday at Ecole St George. Don't miss it, whether player, spectator or interested observer.
