AND THE HEAVENS OPENED: SAB Men Win 2 of Three on Rainy Day 17th July 2009

Last Saturday SAB took on all three teams of Rugby Club de Montreal (RCM). The third team  game took place in good weather and the final result saw our thirds coming out on top by 12-11.

The game was played at a high tempo and many people were surprised by the level of skill, and found it hard to believe that this was actually a division C game,. Perhaps people have forgotten that the SAB third team were finalists in last year's fourth division championships. On one series of play, the white and blue kept control through multiple phases and breakdowns only to see the ball eventually move down the line to fullback Cundall who crashed through the defensive line and dove into the endzone for a spectacular try.  Even the opposing team's fans grudgingly approved of this fine play.

SAB In second team action, captain Phil David warned his charges not to leave scoring in the game too late, as they did in last year's final game. He needn't have worried. Our reserves jumped into the game from the kickoff, pressuring and pushing the RCM players back to their own goal line.

With 25 minutes still left to play SAB was ahead 21-3 and the team seemed to want more, but referee Joe Keene decided to halt the game ealry because of lightning ad electrical storms and it turned out to be an excellent decision. Soon after, the rains began to come down in bucket fulls and the lightning intensified. Th match was called and minutes later the Premier Game was also called off. The rescheduled match will be played as a midweek fixture.

On Sunday the minis and juniors traveled all the way out to Ste-Julie. The juniors lost two games and tied one.

This weekend all SAB teams, except for the juniors are in action. The firsts and reserves play at home at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, while the women travel to Ste-Julie for a 12:oo noon fixture. The Club's non-existent third team will play in Ormstown at 1:30pm
