FALL SERIES TAKES CENTRE STAGE: It
was just good coarse
Rugby on a wet, Fall day.
Photos Guv Lehal)
From every aspect it was old time Rugby. First there was the weather ...
.cold, wet & raining. This might have impacted the second "old time Rugby"
factor .. .only 10 players ( and just 4 from Mac ) at the meeting block at
departure time. With Lester & Patrick both no-shows,a quick sweep through
town rousted two more men torn from warm beds. Of course, this is not unlike
the opening chapter of the book
Sweep
(sorry Maryse), & then even as we left, the bus jerked to a stop for another
lone figure seen sprinting across the lower campus and embarking

WINE + FINALS + FISHER = GREAT
WEEKEND: Abbott Men Repeat; Women Close & 2009 Wines Unveiled
Last Sunday was a pretty good day in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. There were two
Rugby Finals for the local CEGEP, being played down at Concordia. There was an
added bonus in that Old Stone's nephew was the Dawson scrum-half. The John
Abbott men won their game and the women lost narrowly. The CEGEP Women
hung in tight, and late in the game they were only 5-3 down and they were
pressing with a penalty deep in the Dawson zone. However, the blue defense
held and late in the game the downtown MORE |

NOVEMBER RUGBY: Women take
Fall Series centre Stage
The MCGill Rugby Women played John Abbott's Women's team on a
cool last Wednesday evening. It was terrific Fall series Rugby. Abbott
featured Ste-Anne's star player and Swedish bombshell Tanja Andersson, and
she should benefit immensely from the strong opposition John Abbott faced.
On the McGill side Mongeau and Trisch Walsh were in evidence. A good sized
crowd bundled up to watch the game, and in the "We knew we had it in them
department," Taryn and Katie Gauley showed off their table top dancing
skills.

OLD BOYS RUGBY: Fun Game
as part of Fall series 21st
October 2009
If you add up the number of all Rugby
teams in Ste-Anne, you can come up with around 17. This impressive number is
counted to include the High School (4), Mac, McGill, JAC (2), SABRFC senior (
4 ), junior ( 2 ) and mini Rugby teams (3). Well we should be adding one
more to that total, or or maybe even two, as the Old Boys took the field
against Macdonald College last Saturday. The occasion was the Mac College
homecoming. At least 30 old boys showed up, plus a few more who played for
Mac. It was a great day hard Rugby and more importantly, some really good
looking

THANKS: Thanksgiving Day Weekend
Holds Special Meaning for SABRFC 14th October 2009
Jessie Matiaszuk, Ben McHugh and families will join many other Rugby
Club members for whom Thanksgiving weekend holds special meaning. In a
beautiful ceremony, lit by a bright sun shining through glorious stained
glass windows at St.Ignatius de Loyola they were married before family and
friends. As with many other Rugby club weddings ( Dowling, Dudley,
Jamieson,) the catering services were provided by Ste-Anne's Club members.
By all accounts, the

FALL SERIES: The Real Rugby Season is Only
Just Beginning 8th October 2009
Where to begin? It has been quite a season: Trinidad,
Winter training, Curling, Tucks, SWEEP, the weddings, the juniors,
the minis, the women, the thirds' new jerseys, Wednesday night trainings,
ATMs and whatever. The point is that, it's not over!!!!!!!!The Fall
series has already begun. Just last weekend Brad Karp, whom Thompson refers
to as the new Stone, almost scored the winning try in a classic match at
McEwen field. It was the last play of the game in a Fall series match

BY THE BOOK: Similarities abound
in fictional best seller & SAB Cup Wins
5th
October 2009
On game day itself, there were two full school buses and others riding in
the back of pick up trucks. There had been huge turnouts to practices in the
weeks building to FRQ Cup Finals, but no Cousy's which is still under
renovation. There was a key player who ended up playing a huge role in two
of the matches. There was a doctor stitching a player on the kitchen table
after the semifinals, and there was a guy called
High School who passed out in the pool hall.

REFEREES AT FRQ FINALS: JEWELS IN
THE CROWN with reports from David Hardy & Chris
Assmus. Photos from Marcelo Cantovic 8th October 2009
In the excitement of the Quebec Cup
Finals most of the attention is understandably focused on the players and
coaches of the Clubs who have won their way through. The Cup Finals
have annually become more professional, more hotly contested, better run
and organized, just as the players and teams have become increasingly
skilled. What is often missed is the increasingly

3 SABRFC MEN'S TEAMS MAKE FINALS OF QUEBEC CUP: Third XV, Reserves and First XV squads play
in Laval next Saturday 28th September 20 09
Three strong Ste-Anne's teams took the field on
Saturday 26th September on a beautiful Fall day at Ecole St-Georges. All
three made the Finals of the Quebec Cup. The Ste-Anne's third XV team, a squad that made the
finals last year, but only on the strength of defaults in the quarters and
semi finals, took on a resurgent Ormstown team. The game was refereed by a
competent, fit,

TRIPLE HEADER AT ECOLE ST-GEORGES: Barbs, Irish & Host Ste-Anne's All Brighten Day with Display of
Open Rugby
Photos by Laurie McKeown
31st August 2009
3 games were played at Ecole St-George on Saturday 29th August. It was a
wet & miserable day, yet in all 3 matches, the play was wide open and
imaginative. All games were decided by less than a try, except for
the first team game in which Ste-Anne's overcame first half deficits of 7-5
and 12-10 to run out eventual winners 22-12.
The winning try was a
result of hard pressure on the Irish defense. Time and time gain, the
Blue attacked the green line. The Irish conceded numerous MORE.

WOMEN'S SQUAD
BRINGS HOME CUP: Two Late Tries Bring Victory
25th Aug 2009
(This story has been delayed due to technical
difficulties, i.e: Bryce erased the original manuscript on Stone's computer
and the article had to be rewritten)Yes, the bus ride was big, but even
bigger was the pre-game meal on Friday night at 23 St- Pierre. After a
hearty meal of Penne and homemade sauce, Captain Sommer brought renewed
focus to the team for the FRQ Women's championship, as she read from a list
of personal messages.
